Re. ME

DOING . . . I serve as the Pastor of English Adult Ministry at Mississauga Chinese Baptist Church (MCBC).  I preach, teach, counsel . . . you know, stuff like that.

BEING . . . I became a follower of Christ at age 12; baptized after college; called to full-time ministry a year after that; it’s been an unfinished journey of spiritual ups and downs (mostly ups, though). I’m married to my best friend, Lu (that’s been a big up!), and we have 3 amazing little boys (also an up!): Ethan, Micah, and Jared.

LIKING . . . Hearing about people’s experiences with God; sleeping (when I can get it–which is NOT very often!); playing around with my boys; writing; sports; Seinfeld, Grey’s Anatomy, the Mentalist; mom’s apple pie; my wife’s baking (esp. her chocolate chip cookies: “the best, Jerry, the best!”); finding uses for duct tape; the Wiggles, Sponge Bob Square Pants; “7″ as a birth name; the Gospel of Matthew.

LOATHING . . . Really long books, really long sermons, really long meetings, attitude, humidity, ”reality” shows as a genre of TV, business talk (generally), philosophy (mostly), the games politicians play, people who walk around with this grand sense of entitlement; when people borrow my stuff and don’t put it back where they found it.

DREAMING . . . That my kids would love Jesus passionately; multilingual fluency; a cruise with the mrs. (no kids!); an effective book-writing career; summer sabbaticals with the family in Paris; an ultra/micro-lite (hey, a guy can dream, can’t he?).

“when people borrow my stuff and don’t put it back where they found it” – I get annoyed by that too. But too bad I have 2 at home always do that to me.

  • Rev. Wayne Baxter says:

    I feel your pain, Carmen!

Rev, you gotta keep dreaming AND working towards your dreams… hopefully, one or more becoming a reality. You never know and you never know when, so remember, “luck is preparation meets opportunity”…

    Keep on truckin’…

Dropped a word from the quote: “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity!”

    Thanks for the dreamy advice!

I have no idea what a micro-lite is. :-( But from googling, I get many hits. I’ll pick that you mean a “Micro Lite Travel Trailer”. Am I right?

  • Rev. Wayne Baxter says:

Sorry about that: a “microlite” is an “ultralite,” which is 1 of those tiny, 1-person flying machines.

Thank you for your insight. We have some of the same dreams, such as, our children loving Jesus, a cruise, summer in Paris. I also agree with both you and Carmen “when people borrow my stuff and don’t put it back where they found it.”

Do you have a plan to make your dreams come true? How long do you believe this will take place? What steps are you taking to realize them?

    Ken

I Pray all your dreams will come true, Paris is wonderful even for a weekend which is what we had in the early 90’s. we had no plan but dreams do come true. If Alan and I have one regret we did not embrace Jesus all our lives as we do now. That is a confession.
