Re. BLOG

THE BLOG . . . Life Long Learning (3L) exists to help believers to know God’s Word and to apply it to their lives in order to become more like Christ (cf. Eph 4:11-15).  Hence, the focus of this blog is the bible.  Each week my blog will offer extensive comments on some aspect of the bible.  My comments will be detailed and fairly lengthy, so I will only post them weekly at most—depending on the discussion they generate.  I want to be careful to allow readers to digest the material adequately.

Why “CSI”?  Glad you asked!  I think that the CSI TV shows serve as a meta4 for the study approach of my blog, for what you can expect from it, and even for how you can gage upfront your level of interest in the blog.  While CSI, like most successful TV shows, has interesting plots, characters, character development, and relationship dynamics, much of the show’s success lies in its attention to minute details: scenes focusing on blood spray patterns, wound damage, fingerprint recovery, etc.   If you’re more of a “big ticket” item (e.g., characters, relationships) person, then you’d probably go to the fridge during the scenes examining exit wounds.  Conversely, if you love the gadgetry and experiments, then you’d probably head to the can during the love scenes (or not).  While CSI will have “big ticket” items, there will also be a lot of details to digest.  But these details are necessary b/c they often give the big ticket items their significance.

I should mention some caveats for CSI.  My comments are never exhaustive!  On any given topic there will always be so much more that I could say.  Moreover, I’ll be the first one to tell you that I don’t know everything there is to know about any given topic.  CSI is not a substitute for having devotions or for devotional reading of the bible!  The understanding that you gain here will only (hopefully … prayerfully) serve to enhance your devotions.  Finally, it would probably be a good idea to have a bible close at hand when you read CSI.

Our first mission for CS is to examine the New Testament: CSI: NT.  But before we can get started on the teachings of the different books of the NT, I think a good starting point for us would be the beginning . . . NT origins.
